A Quick Update, and a new AA blog friend!

It was pointed out to me that my last post was a good while ago now, so I thought it was time to check in.  For those of you who have been wondering, my hair has been doing great lately!  I said in my last post that I was losing more, and while that continues to be true I still haven't had a new bald spot in a long time.  It is generally pretty thin, especially in the front but it hasn't gotten any worse like I anticipated it would several months ago.  Since there isn't much news on that front (and therefore no exciting balding photos to show) I thought I'd just show off my recent hair cut.  I'm really happy it's been doing so well and I am enjoying it!

In other news, I have still been getting a steady stream of emails from people who have found my blog.  People who are going through various stages of AA, people who are bummed, people who are positive, and people who just want to connect.  Again, I can't say how flattered and happy I am that strangers not only read what I share, but that they tell me they are inspired by my positive attitude and feel better because of my story.  It is really amazing, and it definitely helps me keep my chin up about it all.

The most recent email I received is from an awesome woman named Lindsay who was diagnosed 13 years ago, and runs her own blog called The Alopecia Project.  She talks a lot about various treatments and things she does to try to combat the hair loss (diet, vitamins, medical treatments, home remedies etc.).  She's got a great sense of humor about it, and her own positivity is very refreshing and inspiring.  Her post titled "Things Worse Than Alopecia" really hit it on the nose and sounds exactly like the conversations I have had with my friends about AA; both in making a point that it is only hair loss and thankfully not an ailment that is much worse, and the point that not having any fingers would make life so much harder than a bald spot does! haha I feel like I've found my Alopecia-Areata-blog-soul-mate!

Lindsay also mentions in her blog that her new hair grows in white (there are photos!).  I think that's really cool!  I'm wondering now if any of my new hair is white when it comes in. I usually dye my hair after I get it cut (I like it a bit darker than my natural color) so I don't know.  Hmmm.  Maybe I ought to stop dyeing it and see if I end up with streaks of white, which would be pretty awesome...who knows? : )

Thanks for reading this post, checking out my new friend's blog, and for all of the support over the last few years.  I'll try to be better about posting more often from now on!

  1. Alopecia decided to give me a run for my money last year. Needless to say I was not a happy camper! But, being positive and taking measures to care for ourselves are key ingrediants to mastering this thing. Keep up the positive attitude!

  4. I'm not sure if you're even checking this blog anymore since it's been a while since you've posted, but I stumbled across your blog a few months ago and even though you stopped posting I still read your entries once in a while to keep up a positive attitude and your sense of humor the whole situation. Thanks for keeping my positive energy in check!
